I know this old news but it just goes so well with the new Shitluck shirt I had to post it. Thanks to Brian Todd for the heads up.

I’m a sucker for new parts and clean graphics. All City Cycles out of Minneapolis has a host of new parts out including toe clips, double straps, hubs, cranks and grips. Check them out at AllCityCycles.com

Good looking stuff.

So I got the info pack for the Ride to Victory, a.k.a. The Ride to Conquer Cancer, and having dealt with enough cancer in my own life I’m pretty interested in taking part. However, just to be safe I plan to attend one of the upcoming orientations before I drop my $75 registration fee in the bucket. Right along the lines of Team in Training you also have to raise an additional $2,500 to take part in the ride. Now not all of this gets donated to fighting cancer. Below are some of the things you get for the money you raise…

  • Ride T-shirt
  • Ride Jersey
  • Support Crew during the ride
  • Pit Stops stocked with drinks & snacks
  • Meals starting with lunch on day 1
  • Camping provisions (tent, shower & entertainment?)
  • Gear transport

So there really is a lot going into this on the back end and it sounds like a hell of a good time… maybe. My track record with so many “cyclists” in the past leaves me a bit skeptical. However, this ride is geared towards anyone with a bike, helmet and willingness to ride to Lexington and back in order to raise some money and awareness for cancer. That is what has me interested. I’ll have a yes or no update once I get to the orientation… stay tuned.

Anybody up for riding to Lexington, sleeping in tents then riding back to Louisville the next day? While I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed to discover those yellow bikes around town were for a fund raising ride and not some new Amsterdam styled bike sharing, I’m still stoked on the idea. Not sure what the requirements are at this point, but given they’re not as hardcore as Team in Training then I’ll likely be getting a team together to do this. If you’re interested get in touch with me here. Ride dates are September 25-27, 2009 so there’s plenty of time to get your ass used to sitting on that new Brooks saddle before a 70+ mile day only to turn around and do it again the next morning. Sounds awesome and I’ll be riding fixed for the journey so don’t be scared to join in.

Winter sucks - cold ass temperatures, grey skies and short days don’t exactly scream bike ride but what the hell do we care - we ride at night anyway and we own gloves and balaclavas! Come warm yourself up at On Your Left Cycles January 16th at 8pm for the Fuck Gas “We Don’t Give a Shit How Cold it is… Penguin Waddle.” We know you don’t want to be out there freezing your ass off for too long so seeing that January is the coldest month of the year on average here in Louisville, we’re making this one short.

Join us for an 8 mile loop starting and ending at On Your Left Cycles at 618 Baxter Avenue. You’ll also be able to enjoy some free hot coffee or even a cold beer - don’t be scared to bring your own though as the beer won’t last long. Finally, we’ll end the night with more freebies - a showing of the Mash SF video.

Support comes from Lattitude Zine, Shitluck Clothing, Liberty Tattoo & Art Parlor, On Your Left Cycles, Urban Velo.

Just got ahold of the Continental Top Contact for a test run that I’m really looking forward to. Thinking about running brakeless to put it through as much abuse as possible right from the start. Look for a full revue in another month or so.

I love my bikes. At the moment my favorite is the fixed gear… or is that track bike, fixie, fixter, or as so many refer to it, “a hipster fixed gear?” I’ll admit that fixed gear bikes have exploded in popularity over the last couple years and even more amazingly so among people that have no idea what they’re doing on a bicycle in general, let alone one that doesn’t stop. However, just because all the so-called cool kids are flocking to something, doesn’t make it too cliche to be fun or practical for that matter.

Here in Louisville, social circles and cliques run wild. It’s sickening although expected in a moderate sized city such as this, my beloved home. However, I do lament the fact that I am assumedly grouped in with the aforementioned hipster and categorized as such. Either way, I just want to have fun on my bike and as long as the people I’m surrounded by and riding with do too then it really doesn’t matter what anyone wants to think or call us.

Honestly, I find it strangely interesting the amount of attention the fixed gear scene as we’ll call it, has attained. Perhaps it’s the fact that you can just ride to the bar and back on fixed gear bike all while looking totally awesome that this has happened. So many people refer to the early days of skateboarding and BMX in the way the fixed gear culture is evolving, and rightly so. However, I think it’s even more wide spread, and with the aid of the internet it has gained momentum so much faster than either of it’s core predecessors. All this combined with accessibility, as in everyone can ride a bike, and it’s completely logical. Just get out there and enjoy yourself, regardless of what everyone thinks. Fun is fun no matter how stupid you look.

With all that in mind, don’t forget to ride you ass over to On Your Left tonight for the Magnolia Meander!
