Found this one over at Bike Gallery. Story goes that Peter Lunoak and Brice Stivers took on the Cross Crusade out west on a Madsen cargo bike. I just wish there were pics of the steps and barriers and think of all the handups you could grab cruising in the tub of that beast. Sweet!
Locally we’ve got a couple video premiers happening tonight over at On Your Left Cycles. First up is Dust and Bones from New World Disorder at 7:30. I have mixed feelings about watching this video. While it looks absolutely amazing, I don’t like watching people wreck and this looks to have some doosies in it. Directly after Dust and Bones will be the new Fit BMX video, Stay Fit. Again, amazing riding and I’m sure some wrecks that will have me cringing and looking away. Hope to see everyone there!

Lastly, as posted over at the On Your Left blog, looks like our local year round cyclocross venue, Champions Park, will be getting shut down after this year to make way for a totally awesome dog park! Woot! er uh Woof! Fuck that for real though. However, I’m thinking there’s a shit ton of space out there so we may just need to cut some new paths. We’ll see. Shit sucks more than apartment hunting.
Update: If you want to voice your opinion regarding this dog run crap making a currently multiuse facility into a single call Jacky Gardner at 636-5181 or on her cell at 744-6065. Please be respectful and polite in doing this as you calling her up and acting like some douche bag isn’t going to help a thing.

So I’m going all in and wearing lycra shorts and jerseys this season for cross… fuck it. However, one thing I have come to find out is that shit ain’t cheap! Soooooooo, in order to keep food in my kids mouths I’m gonna ask for any jerseys you people may be willing to donate to my cause. That cause being wearing jerseys and drinking beer at cross races all season. I’ll spread the word about your awesomeness right here… just donate a damned jersey. It can be used for all I care.
I’m a medium club cut if you’re interested.

So while I may regret this later on, I’ve made the choice to take to cyclocross single speed. I’m essentially throwing a different set of wheels and eventually forks with canti-levers on the steam roller and seeing what happens. If I truly decide I’d like to roll with gears I’m eyeing either the Masi CXR or the Bianchi D2 Axis. If anyone has any experience with either of these get in touch and give me your opinion.
I stole the photo from Ironclad Cycling’s Flickr, check em out for some other great shots.

Cyclocross season is just over a month away and I’m giving it a go. A bit up in the air whether it will be single speed or not but if anyone has any stuff they need to get rid of or some semi-seasoned advice let me know. I need all the help I can get. Better yet, if you’ve got an in at a bike company get em to float me a bike for the season and I’ll review it up on the site all season long. This is gonna be awesome.

Tracklocross, First Mud II is right up my alley and sounds like more fun than I can probably imagine. In the Frankenstein mix of Cyclocross and alleycats you’ve got Tracklocross.
From their website… forcing riders to wade through water, run through mud (or risk a tumble), and scramble up and down soft dirt hills - to get to the finish line muddy and broken, and for only one person, victorious.
Check out the rules below:
1. FIXED OR SLICKS RULE: Your bike must either have either a fixed gear, or slick tires no fatter than 25mm. Want to ride your cyclocross bike? Fine, as long as you throw proper road tires on it. Wanna ride your fixed gear? Great. You’re allowed to use cross tires. What? You only ride singlespeeds? All right, just make sure it has slicks.
2. SPECIAL TRACK BIKE CATEGORY: There will be a special prize for the highest-placing rider riding a track bike. By track bike, we mean a bike with: a fixed gear, geared at greater than or equal to 49×16 (700×23c). Plugged drop bars. No brakes. Slick tires.

Friday, February 20th
Gather/Ride: 8pm
On Your Left Cycles (618 Baxter Avenue)
As always, we’re just looking for a good time. Even if you’ve never played bike polo before, this would be a hell of a time to start. Good times and good people - we don’t really know what the hell we’re doing either.
Feel free to just join in for the ride if you like, tag along to polo and act as a spectator or jump in on a game. It’s all for fun and the love of bikes. All bikes and all riders are encouraged to attend.
Ride leaves from On Your Left Cycles and ends at the Louisville Bicycle Polo Society indoor arena at 416 W. Chestnut…

Yep - as I type this, it is 1 below zero in Louisville and even though we’re looking at a forecast of 13 degrees, it’s still on. While that other bike club in the city is canceling every ride they had scheduled over the last couple days, Fuck Gas stands strong. In all it’s glory, the Fuck Gas “We Don’t Give a Shit How Cold it is” Penguin Waddle will go down as planned. Meet up at On Your Left (618 Baxter Avenue) at 8pm to ride shortly after. Once back to the shop we’ll have free coffee and beer as well as screening of the Mash SF video.

I’m new to this whole cyclocross scene so coming up with good sources of information is still hard for me, but while checking out the One Gear One Mind blog I ran into a beautiful single speed Raleigh RX-10 that there were apparently only 150 frames of produced. You can find additional pics on the Raleigh blog. I’m sure they’re all gone as I’m pretty late coming to the party, but I just have to ask… why?!
Oh well. All hope is not lost. I’ll just continue on my quest for a used San Jose I suppose…

If anyone has a line on a Bianchi San Jose I’m looking to get my cross career underway. Better yet, if someone over at Bianchi wants to ship one out to Kentucky for a long term review I think we could work something out… I take a 53 by the way.

Winter sucks - cold ass temperatures, grey skies and short days don’t exactly scream bike ride but what the hell do we care - we ride at night anyway and we own gloves and balaclavas! Come warm yourself up at On Your Left Cycles January 16th at 8pm for the Fuck Gas “We Don’t Give a Shit How Cold it is… Penguin Waddle.” We know you don’t want to be out there freezing your ass off for too long so seeing that January is the coldest month of the year on average here in Louisville, we’re making this one short.
Join us for an 8 mile loop starting and ending at On Your Left Cycles at 618 Baxter Avenue. You’ll also be able to enjoy some free hot coffee or even a cold beer - don’t be scared to bring your own though as the beer won’t last long. Finally, we’ll end the night with more freebies - a showing of the Mash SF video.
Support comes from Lattitude Zine, Shitluck Clothing, Liberty Tattoo & Art Parlor, On Your Left Cycles, Urban Velo.
