Jackson’s Organic Coffee is obviously by no means a bike product. However, they are very bike friendly even attending and providing coffee at various races here in Kentucky. Jackson’s is also not you’re average coffee shop, if you can even call it that. There is no sit-down or table service, only a drive-through window at their Payne Street location near Lexington Road.
Co-proprietor Christopher Stockton, an expatriate Brit (and Man City fan I might add), has a welcoming personality and is seemingly a perfectionist when it comes to his coffee. Organic, fair-trade coffees are roasted, canned and brewed then sold through the drive-up window. With sustainability at the forefront, Jackson’s offers whole bean or ground coffee in traditional cans that will earn you a discount upon returning for a refill. As for their own brewed versions, you would be doing yourself a favor by stopping by from time to time and getting a fresh cup. There really is no comparison in the city of Louisville.
This really isn’t as much of a review as it is an endorsement since I don’t know what in the hell I’m talking about when it comes to the chemistry or roasting of coffee. The thing I do know is Jackson’s is amazing coffee. As you can see above, I generally get the can of beans and grind and brew it myself at home and even then nothing compares to the coffee roasted by Christopher. I’ve tried every other brand in town, and many from out of town and still, Jackson’s is the coffee that serves as a benchmark to measure all others against.
Coffee and espresso drinks start at $1.75 for a small brewed cup and cans I believe start at $10 and are discounted to $9 for refills(somebody correct me on this if I’m off). The drive-through (or ride through) window is open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays except holidays, and they are closed weekends.
*Note
If you now go to this location, it is no longer Jackson’s, as in Christopher is no longer affiliated with the shop. It’s something else now, and something not so good I’ve heard. He plans to start back up sooner or later. Best of luck to him.
