Archive for September, 2009

By now I’m sure you’ve had your fill of Interbike photos and info… I just thought I’d acknowlege that the thing went down and there were products and old friends to be seen. I may have to make a return come next year, as much as I hate to admit it, I would have loved to have been there. Oh well, onwards and upwards yes?

Just so’s you don’t forget…

We’ve still got stuff rolling in the door for this thing. Thanks Urban Velo! Given that we do want to encourage all you idiots out there willing to swig beer and race one another a fair chance at winning some of this crap we will plan on wither splitting the crit and King of the Mountain races into single speed and geared catagories or possibly combining the two and offering overall/single/geared prizes. The people will decide. Hopefully I can get my shit together and get these flyers printed and posted up around town.

Wednesday, September 30th 2009 marks one year after Jen Futrell was hit from behind on her bicycle. Jen died in the hospital 5 days later. There will be an event that will honor Jen starting at 4 pm in Tyler park. The Down Home Hospitality Cafe will host a massive potluck. Bring what you can, or just yourself. Groups that Jen would like to have tabling are welcome to come. (please bring your own table.) At 6pm there will be a memorial ride touring the highlands to remember various bicycle accidents to raise awareness about a need for harmony and consciousness on the road. The ride will end at Jen’s ghost bike on Baxter Ave. where there will be a vigil held.

So I’ve been so caught up with so-called training and cross racing lately I spaced on this one and never posted it. Le Tour de Franzia is a series of races and events spread out over the course of two months (roughly), and will include: distance races, sprints, and time trials. BRAbloomington is working with Indy’s Radskids to offer a variety of races and different terrain to highlight the skills of a variety of riding styles.

Stage one alrady went down Sept. 11 with a lower than expected turnout, but there’s still plenty of racing to be had. If you’re interested in getting in on the tour action it’s not too late. Stage 2 takes place Friday October 16th in Indianapolis, IN and if you show up you will be given a starting time of 2 hours 1 minute, the same time as the last place finisher from stage 1. This leaves you about 20 minutes behind the leader so you’ve got a little work to do. Add to all that, the races will be fixed gear / single speed ONLY !

Now I just need to decide if I want to head up to Indy and race a fixed stage 2 days before that Bloomington cx race… so much to do, so little time.

…hopefully. That there is Portland International Airport hommies. If all goes as planned, I hope to be slogging through there somewhere’s around November 5 or 6. That would put there right in time for the SSCXWC09 indeed. Having found flights for $200 and registration being $45 I should be able to swing it. Now all I need is some place to stay and maybe some directions around the city and I should be good to go. Any one got some floor or couch space I could borrow for a few days? I’m totally awesome, house broken and won’t tear up your furniture. You’ll love me. Email me and let’s get this shit together.

Now generally I’m a fan of the product Charge puts out and Juliet’s new ride pictured above is no exception. Only issue I take with it is the name. Scissor. Really? Reminds of a certain other companies fixed freestyle frame… Regardless, it looks like a good one for you bar spinnin, curb jumpin, wheelie poppin types. Me, I’ve got a BMX bike for a reason and it in turn, has a freewheel for a reason. I’m not “hating” as the kids call it, I just prefer the look of tricks done on little bikes is all. After all, I love riding fixed around town, or anywhere for that matter. To each their own.

In other bike news, we’ve picked up Nutcase Helmets as a sponsor for the 40oz Fun Run. I’m waiting to hear back from a few more potentials… spread the word and don’t forget to mark your calendar for Saturday, Oct 10.

Will somebody buy me a plane ticket to Portland please? I have battle to do. Possibly the best show in the cross business, the Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships (SSCXWC) looks to be enjoying it’s last year in the great city of Portland. Where will it go? Time will tell. Check out SSCXWC09 for additional details.

I meant to have this up earlier than today as that now while you are likely sitting at work or home it’s probably late notice. Regardless, today is World Car Free Day. Go ride your bike, or walk, run and skip your way around. Good times.

No pics, just words, bitches.

Cyclocross is re-fucking-tarded. It may be the most idiotic, dumb founded, self depreciating activity I have ever taken part in throughout my 33 year career as a human being. That said, I can not wait til the next race! Additionally, if you’re a cross fan, stay tuned for the most absurd of cross races to be organized. Myself, coupled with a few other sadistic objects of the human persuasion will be assembling the most absurd of obstacles for what will be a simply logic defying race. Fun will be had, injuries will likely be incured, and many a laughs will be directed at all partipants.

If you’ve been living under a rock, you can find out what in the hell cyclocross is here, and better yet, figure out how you can play your part by following the schedule here. I love this shit. Congrats to everyone that raced this weekend and it was awesome meeting all you retards that I didn’t already know. Crazy fuckers.

I can’t imagine this is even going to feel good on the first lap much less the fourth or by some absurd circumstance, later laps. Either way I’m am insanely stoked for Sunday to get here so I can hop that barrier and run my dumb ass up that thing. Just make sure you’re standing at the top with a beer for me… please.

Then, there’s this…

I know you guys are probably getting sick of me going on and on about cyclocross, but it’s just soooo damned fun! Hopefully I’ll have some pictures of the good times for you after this weekend. This is gonna rule. I think the best part of that video is the commentary noting how absurd the popularity cx is… “if you’re like me, it’s hard to see why. It seems to combine all the worse of cycling and cross country running.” Indeed.
Next up is this bit of magnificence seen first over at AHTBM.

Sure, my days at work never go quite like this, but there’s always hope right?
